Muscat: Charity work stands as one of the noblest forms of social solidarity, embodying compassion and unity among individuals and communities. It plays a vital role in strengthening family stability, meeting the needs of underprivileged and vulnerable families, and ensuring a dignified and secure life. By fostering social cohesion and supporting socio-economic development, it creates a genuine system of hope for individuals, families, and communities.
Established in 2002 and officially licensed in 2006, Dar Al Atta'a Association is the first charitable organisation in the Sultanate of Oman. It has been instrumental in transforming the lives of numerous families across various governorates, empowering them to lead sustainable and stable lives.
Maryam Issa Al Zadjali, Founder and Chairperson of Dar Al Atta'a Association, stated that the association strives to assist those in need through a variety of programmes, including: the Family Sponsorship Programme, Crisis Relief Programme, Education Programme, Disaster Relief and Management Programme, "My Safe Home" Programme for housing construction and maintenance, Empowerment Programme, Islamic Values Programme, and the "Let’s Read" Programme.
In a statement to Oman News Agency (ONA), she noted that in 2024, the association allocated OMR4.094 million to these programmes, aimed at providing living support and meeting the essential needs of underprivileged families. She added that in the first half of 2025, approximately OMR2.038 million was disbursed for these initiatives.
Highlighting the importance of innovation in charitable work, Al Zadjali explained that Dar Al Atta'a has established a dedicated Social Innovation Department to leverage modern technology in developing its programmes and serving the community. This department is expected to bring a qualitative shift in services, streamline procedures, and enhance the efficiency and quality of the association’s work.
As for the upcoming projects, she revealed that the association is preparing to launch the second phase of the "Dar Al Atta'a Neighbourhood" in Al-Khaboura, which will include a mosque, a community center, and commercial facilities. The project features 36 model residential units, each spanning 274 square metres, equipped with solar energy systems and water treatment to reflect the concept of sustainable community housing.
To date, Dar Al Atta'a has delivered 175 homes to families across Oman and carried out maintenance on more than 2,514 houses.
Maryam Al Zadjali affirmed that the association remains committed to expanding its assistance programmes, strengthening partnerships with government and private sectors, and contributing to sustainable development. These efforts aim to meet the needs of Omani society and enhance the role of voluntary charity work in community service.
