Muscat: There are 1.4 million expatriate workers employed in the Sultanate with 6 per cent of them holding top posts like manager, investor or specialist, the Ministry of Labour revealed on Saturday in its Q1 report for 2021.
Numbers included in the report pegged the total number of migrant workers at 1,144,185 of which one-third or 604,163, work in the Muscat Governorate. 204,381 work in North Al Batinah and 165,647 work in Dhofar.
In terms of designation, 31,254 workers are employed as directors of public administration and there are 60,451 specialists and 40,759 technicians in the scientific, technical and humanitarian fields.
The vast majority of expat workers are concentrated in the basic auxiliary engineering professions, with more than 500,000 workers in this sector. More than 95,000 work in sales and over 83,000 work in agriculture and animal husbandry. There are over 100,000 workers in the industrial, chemical processes and food industries sector.
