Property, vehicles damaged as rains lash Oman

Muscat: Many properties and vehicles in several parts of Oman were damaged, owing to the torrential rains that lashed the country on Tuesday night, and early Wednesday morning.

Dozens of livestock also perished due to the weather, either due to uprooted trees falling on them, or because of walls that collapsed over them due to strong winds.

More rains, thunderstorms, and even hailstones are expected over some areas of the country, with people advised to accordingly take precautions, particularly those who work outdoor in jobs such as agriculture and fisheries.

To provide relief payments to people who have suffered damage, walis in areas that have been particularly hard-hit have organised meetings to assess the impact of the weather, after which a plan of action can be drawn up.

The Royal Oman Police (ROP), has urged people to stay away from low places and park vehicles in high places, away from valley streams, due to thunderstorm possibilities.
