Muscat: Muscat Municipality has temporarily suspended installing vehicle umbrellas in front of residential buildings.
Eng. Essam bin Saud bin Hareb Al Zadjali, Chairman of Muscat Municipality, has decided to stop issuing approvals for the purpose.
According to the decision dated May 16, 2021, “With reference to Muscat Municipality Decision No. 95/2018 issuing a regulation organising the installation of vehicle umbrellas in front of residential buildings outside the boundaries of the plot of land and to Decision No. 32/2019 amending some provisions of the regulation organising the installation of vehicle umbrellas in front of residential buildings outside the boundaries of the plot, and as long as the goal is to allow the construction of umbrellas outside the boundaries of land plots in Muscat Governorate to alleviate the heat of the sun and to facilitate the citizens, but as a result of the distortion of the public view caused by the application of the above decision, due to the lack of strict compliance with the requirements for the establishment of umbrellas on the one hand and the presence of technical deficiencies discovered after the implementation of the decision on the other hand, it has been decided to stop issuing approvals for the establishment of these umbrellas for three months.”
“This comes with an aim to review the special requirements for the construction of umbrellas outside the boundaries of the lands plots and to find appropriate mechanisms to stop the deformation occurring in most residential neighbourhoods.”
