MSX index ends marginally lower

MSX index ends marginally lower

Muscat: The MSX index closed at 3,956.23 points, down 0.10 per cent from the previous close. The Sharia Index ended up by 0.11 per cent at 594.79 points.

Construction Materials Industry, up 3.33 per cent, was the top gainer while Muscat Thread Mill, down 8.33 per cent, was the top loser. Shares of Bank Nizwa was the most active in terms of the number of shares traded as well as in terms of turnover.

A total number of 495 trades were executed during the day's trading session, generating a turnover of OMR2.18 million, with more than 16.11 million shares changing hands. Out of 43 traded securities, 18 advanced, 8 declined and 17 remained unchanged. At the session close, foreign investors were net buyers for OMR237,000 while GCC & Arab investors were net sellers for OMR230,000 followed by domestic investors for OMR7,000 worth of shares.

Financial Index closed at 6,279.73 points, down 0.17 per cent. Muscat Finance, Oman & Emirates Investment Holding Company, United Finance, Al Madina Investments, and Global Financial Investment Holding Company were up by 3.33 per cent, 2.90 per cent, 1.69 per cent, 1.61 per cent, and 1.52 per cent respectively. Prices of Bank Nizwa, Al Omaniya Financial Services, and Bank Dhofar were down by 1.04 per cent, 0.86 per cent, and 0.83 per cent respectively.

Industrial Index closed at 5917.75 points, down 0.09 per cent. Construction Material Industry, Galfar Engineering, Al Maha Ceramics, and Oman Cement were up by 3.33 per cent, 2.56 per cent, 2.22 per cent, and 0.44 per cent respectively. Prices of Muscat Thread Mill, Al Jazeera Steel, and Oman Flour Mills were down by 8.33 per cent, 4.10 per cent, and 0.49 per cent respectively.

Services Index was up by 0.60 per cent before closing at 1,714.57 points. Prices of Renaissance Services, Dhofar Generating, Phoenix Power, Musandam Power, and Oman National Engineering were up by 2.74 per cent, 2.36 per cent, 2.22 per cent, 1.21 per cent, and 1.11 per cent respectively. Muscat Desalination and Ooredoo were down by 2.38 per cent and 0.52 per cent respectively.
