Muscat: The National Museum has inaugurated an exhibition that includes Italian museum collections and Omani archaeological artefacts.

A statement issued online by Oman News Agency (ONA) said: "The National Museum inaugurates an exhibition that includes museum collections loaned from the Italian Republic and Omani archaeological artefacts that bear witness to ancient traditions dating back thousands of years."

The exhibition highlights the continuity of Omani-Italian relations through the ages, as embodied by trade caravans carrying precious frankincense and spices as popular consumer goods in the Western world.

The importance of this exhibition, which continues for the general public for a period of three months, stems from the fact that frankincense enjoyed a high status in Roman society, especially in the Tsarist court and aristocratic societies.
