First Empty Quarter Festival kicks off in Oman
The Empty Quarter Festival includes a number of entertainment, sports, family, cultural and economic activities.

Muscat: The first Empty Quarter Festival kicked off in Al-Khadif area in the Al-Shasr area in Wilayat of Thumrait in the Governorate of Dhofar, which is organised by the General Directorate of Heritage and Tourism in the Governorate of Dhofar, in cooperation with a number of government agencies and private sector. It will last for 17 days.

"The Empty Quarter Festival includes a number of entertainment, sports, family, cultural and economic activities, including the establishment of a handicraft corner in cooperation with the Small and Medium Enterprises Development Authority in the Governorate of Dhofar and the Children's Theatre," Oman News Agency (ONA) announced.

In addition to paragliding and the zip-line between the sand dunes, which is implemented for the first time in the Sultanate, they will organise a traditional shooting competition and a sand challenge competition on four-wheelers.

The Director-General of the General Directorate of Heritage and Tourism in the Governorate of Dhofar clarified that the goal of holding the festival in its first edition is to encourage domestic tourism and to exploit the various winter tourism potentials that the governorate enjoys, with the application of all precautionary measures and adherence to them based on the decisions of the Supreme Committee.
