Oman records more than 2,000 COVID19 new cases in 24 hours

Muscat: The Sultanate of Oman has recorded over 2,000 cases of coronavirus in a day for the first time since June 2021.

On Tuesday, January 25, 2022, the Ministry of Health announced the number of infections at 2,079 in the Sultanate during the last 24 hours. With this announcement, the total number of cases reported in the Sultanate will be 326,164.

While talking to the Times of Oman about the increase in the number of Covid-19 infections in the Sultanate in the the past few weeks, Ibrahim Al-Maimani, a data analyst and social activist, said, “The first time the Sultanate recorded cases above 2,000 was on July 13, 2020, when 2,164 cases were recorded.  We also recorded over 2,000 on nine different dates in June 2021."

Al-Maimani said ”the highest number of infections recorded was 2,529 cases on June 21, 2021, and we expect that the number of infections within the next two days or the beginning of next week will be more."

The Ministry of Health stated that the Sultanate had recorded one death, and that the total number of deaths had reached 4,130 and the total number of recoveries had reached 307,003.
