Muscat: A new tariff for power supply, for residential and agricultural categories of customers has been announced in the Sultanate of Oman, along with the merger of electricity companies related to distribution and supply, into three distinct units, the Oman News Agency said on Wednesday.
The results of the tariff review and electricity sector governance are as follows:
1. Changing of the subsidy to the housing category from five years to ten years, with an increase at a rate not exceeding 2 Baizas annually.
2. Fixing of the value of the approved tariff for electricity consumption for the residential category for the year 2022 with the tariff of December 2021 for the same category.
3. Unifying the electricity consumption segments for all residential category accounts, so that the value of the electricity consumption tariff for the residential category for the year 2022 is determined on the basis of two categories.
4. Merging the electricity companies for the distribution and supply activities in 3 companies, while retaining the Dhofar Integrated Services Company.
5. The start of the operational operations of the first instant market for electricity in the Middle East under the name of "Oman Instant Electricity Market" to raise the efficiency of the energy procurement system in line with international best practices.
OIA announces restructuring process
The Oman Investment Authority announced the start of a project to restructure the distribution and supply companies in the electricity sector, ONA said.
The highlights are:
1. Companies included in the restructuring process: Muscat Electricity Distribution Company, Mazoon Electricity Company, Majan Electricity Company, and Rural Areas Electricity Company (Tanweer).
2. The restructuring project will take into account aspects related to the staff, clarify the results that accompany this type of project, and keep the staff informed of issues of importance to them.
3. The Nama Group shall provide the appropriate information and hold open meetings with the employees of the companies about the project.
4. Nama Group will communicate with the entities including financing companies in order to notify them of the restructuring project, in a manner that does not affect the legal and contractual aspects of the relationship with these entities.
5. The companies obligations are evaluated in light of the projects being implemented and the contracts in force with contractors to ensure that these obligations are not affected by this type of procedures.
6. Nama Group will communicate continuously with various relevant parties to provide the necessary information about the restructuring project.
