Two-day NU TechFEST 2022 event held

College of Engineering at National University of Science and Technology, Oman in its continuous efforts to provide quality education to its students and to contribute to the society, is organizing a two-day NU TechFEST 2022 event on 16th and 17th May 2022.

The inaugural function of this 2-day event was conducted in the College Engineering on 16th May 2022 and the occasion was witnessed by academia, industry and guests from various institutions.

The gathering was welcomed by Professor Vallavaraj, Assistant Dean, Undergraduate studies, followed by the formal inauguration of the event by Professor Dr. Ahmed Hassan Al Bulushi, Dean, College of Engineering. In his inaugural address, he motivated the students to consider the events in TechFest 2022 not just as competitions, but also as an opportunity to work with their peers from various institutions.

A short brief about the NU TechFEST was given by Ms. Charlot Nalankilli, Convener of NU TechFEST 2022, highlighting the history of this one-and-half decade event. Also, the relation of the proposed events to the smart city initiatives was highlighted.

Ms. Laila Al Hadhrami, Smart City Development Manager, National Energy Center, Oman, graced the event as the Chief Guest and delivered a keynote speech. In her highly motivating keynote speech, Ms.Laila Al Hadhrami, introduced the various aspects of the smart city initiatives that has been developed in Oman. She insisted the need to develop smart solutions for the people, which will be sustainable in the long run. Economy, environment, society and culture were the three pillars of sustainable smart solutions and they need to be incorporated in all the smart initiatives developed by the students in future, this was her takeaway message.

Her keynote speech on Sustainable Cities in Oman 2040 vision, threw some light on the current smart solutions developed and employed in Oman like smart meters, smart parking, smart security, smart irrigation and smart environmental solutions.
The vote of thanks was delivered by Dr. Ramakrishna Kumar, Deputy HOD and Co-Convener of the NU TechFEST 2022.
