Muscat: A surgical team from Sultan Qaboos University Hospital (SQUH) conducted a successful catheterisation surgery to patch two atrial septa and lend relief to a patient who suffered a rare case of orthopedic dyspnea (shortness of breath).

The team, led by senior surgeons Dr. Fahd Abdullah Al Kindi and Dr. Khalfan Salim Al Sunaidi, managed to improve the subject’s oxygen flow level by 65 percent to 90 percent in sitting posture.

Cases of orthopaedic dyspnea are rare, and so are heart openings causing them.
