Counterfeit vehicle filters sold as originals seized in Sohar

Muscat: The Judicial enforcement officers at the Directorate General of Consumer Protection in North Al Batinah Governorate fined a commercial establishment for selling counterfeit vehicle filters disguised as originals. The charge is for the violation of the Consumer Protection Law and its implementing regulations.

The Directorate received information that an establishment providing automotive services was selling counterfeit vehicle filters in original packages. This was being sold to the customers as original ones. The officers seized about 25 counterfeit filters and 20 empty original filter boxes that were being used to refill and sell counterfeits disguised as originals.

Apparently, the accused seller has acknowledged the charges. The charges include fraud and breach of trust and credibility with the consumer, in violation of the provisions of Article (2) of the Unified Law for Combating Commercial Fraud for GCC countries and Article (7) of the Consumer Protection Law and its implementing regulations. Based on the evidence and the confession submitted by the accused, the items were seized and legal measures were taken.

The Consumer Protection Authority calls on all merchants and suppliers to adhere to transparency and credibility and to avoid misleading the customers in any form.
