Muscat: Heavy rainfall, thunderstorms are expected to affect the Sultanate of Oman on Tuesday March 27, 2023 and Wednesday March 28, said the Civil Aviation Authority (CAA) in its alert No1.
The CAA said: “Heavy rains, thunderstorms expected over governorates of Musandam, North Al Batinah, Al Buraimi and Al Dhahira which may range between 30 mm to 80 mm (within 24 hours), and will extend gradually during the afternoon and evening over governorates of South Al Batinah, Al Dakhylia, Muscat, South Al Sharqiya an North Al Sharqiya and later at night over governorates of Al Wusta and Dhofar.”
The Civil Aviation Authority has issued a caution warning and has asked the citizens to refrain from crossing valleys, visiting low places and going to the sea until the end of the warning period.
Expected Impacts:
1. Valleys may overflow in some areas and thundershowers are expected occasionally
associated with fresh downward winds and hail.
2. Reduction in horizontal visibility during thunderstorms.
3. Sea state will be moderate to rough with maximum wave height ranging
from 1.5 meters to 3.0 meters along most of the coasts.
In addition the CAA warns motorists of dust storms during the coming hours due to the active southeasterly wind movement (15-20 knots) over Al Wusta and Dhofar governorates affecting the level of horizontal visibility.
