Muscat: 20 citizens were airlifted from a mountainous area to the Wilayat of Dima by police helicopter due to heavy rains in the Sultanate of Oman, said Royal Oman Police (ROP).
A statement issued online by the Royal Oman Police (ROP) said: ”Police aviation carried out an evacuation of 20 citizens from the Suqah area in Montenegro to the Ismaia area in the Wilayat of Dima Wal’Tayyin in North Sharqiyah Governorate, due to the interruption of traffic due to the descent of the valleys.”
Several wilayats in the governorates of North and South Al Sharqiyah, Al Wusta, and parts of Muscat, Al Dakhiliyah and South Al Batinah governorates witnessed heavy to medium rains that led to flooding of valleys and reefs and interruption of traffic, in addition to active winds and hail in other areas.
The University of Technology and Applied Sciences in the Wilayat of Sur in South Al Sharqiyah Governorate also announced distance learning for students due to the climatic conditions.
