Oman Holidays 2023: When is the next public holiday?

Muscat: The Islamic New Year 1445 will fall on July 19, 2023, and the holiday is likely on Thursday, July 20, 2023.

The Islamic New Year is an official holiday in the Sultanate of Oman and many other Arab countries. That day coincides with Wednesday, July 19, 2023, and on the Hijri date Muharram 1, 1445, when the crescent is surveyed on the last day of the month of Dhu al-Hijjah to determine the beginning of the new Hijri year 1445.

According to Royal Decree No. 56/2020 specifying official holidays, Article 1 stipulates that official days of holiday for units of the state’s administrative apparatus and other legal persons and private sector establishments shall be determined on the holidays and occasions as follows, including the Hijri New Year, Muharram 1st.

According to the Hijri calendar issued by the Ministry of Endowments and Religious Affairs, July 19, 2023 will coincide with the first day of the month of Muharram 1445 as the Hijri New Year.
