Tourism development projects launched in Al-Jabal Al-Akhdar

Muscat: The tourism development projects for the village of Al-Suwjra in the Wilayat of Al-Jabal Al-Akhdar in Al-Dakhiliyah Governorate have been launched today. The project comes within the framework of the existing cooperation between the Ministry of Heritage and Tourism and the Al-Ahlia Company in the village, and includes a number of tourist facilities and services such as heritage lodges and a mountain path.

Sultan bin Jamil Al-Makhmari, Head of the Tourism Experience Development Department at the Ministry of Heritage and Tourism, confirmed that the development efforts in support of the civil company's initiatives included employing the rocky slopes on which parts of the village were built using natural resources such as rocks, al-Alan trees, and a group of materials in building these small mountain huts, as well as Rehabilitation of the agricultural path, its full paving, preparation of seating for rest, in addition to the installation of protections on parts of the path through the ancient alleys and passages, the preparation of viewing platforms and the provision of garbage containers. These works have already been completed at a rate of completion of 100 percent.

He explained that the village is characterised by many elements that qualify it as a distinctive tourist destination that embodies the ancient rural lifestyle in the Sultanate of Oman, and takes advantage of the mountainous and heritage nature to provide a unique tourist experience that presents a tourist model that is in harmony with the aesthetics of the place represented in the quiet village of Al-Sujar and the creativity in its traditional architecture.

The Ministry, in cooperation with the local company in the village, installed identification panels for the trees in the village, drawing on the expertise of specialists in the Omani Botanical Garden in this aspect.

The project is expected to provide more unique tourism experiences for visitors during the subsequent stages, such as educational activities and seminars for visitors, a workshop for learning carving on rocks and woods, making traditional Omani coffee, in addition to visiting the natural attractions that the village embraces, such as a cave and practicing some adventure tourism activities represented in practicing Mountain walking activity with mountain paths connected to the village with other villages.

For his part, Abdullah bin Nasser al-Shuraiqi, the representative of the National Company in the village of Al-Sujarah in the state of Al-Jabal Al-Akhdar, said that the village of Al-Sujarah has registered more than 5,000 visitors since last year until now, explaining that the cooperation is ongoing and ongoing between the National Company and the Ministry of Heritage and Tourism, by enabling the village to work on development. And improvement in tourism services to make it one of the most important tourist villages that are visited by various tourist segments.
