Muscat: In honour of International Women's Day 2024, the British Ambassador to Oman, Dr Liane Saunders, hosted a series of events to mark this year’s theme of ‘inclusion’. The series kicked off in Sohar with a networking event coinciding with the Investment Forum, with women and allies from across the Tamkeen (women’s mentoring programme), Startup Grind Sohar, and wider communities in attendance.
The first roundtable, dedicated to climate change, featured environmental activists and experts who discussed sustainable practices and the role of women in leading environmental stewardship in Oman.
In the sports session, prominent Omani sportswomen shared their experiences and the challenges they've faced. They discussed the significance of providing equal opportunities for women in sports and the impact of athletic achievements on female empowerment and societal perceptions.
The final session turned to arts, media, and culture, where celebrated Omani artists and cultural figures spoke about the influence of women in shaping the cultural landscape of the country.
As the world marks International Women's Day, the conversations held at the various events serve as a vital reminder of the importance of inclusion.
