OQ and its partners spent $2. 82bn on goods, services to boost in-country-value

Muscat: The global integrated energy group, OQ, and its partner are working on enhancement of the socio-economic development in Al Wusta Governorate as part of the group’s corporate responsibility (CSR).

OQ and its partners invest in the programmes that boost the growth and development of local companies and contribute to creation of job opportunities for the supply of goods and services from the local supplier.

The group and its partners in Al Wusta Governorate spent on the goods and services from local suppliers over $2. 825 billion in a bid to boost the in-country-value (ICV) as part of the strategy of the group and its partners.

The report issued by OQ showed that Duqm Refinery, one of the joint venture between the group and Kuwait Petroleum International spent on the services and the goods during the phases of the construction of the project of Duqm Refinery $2.534 billion including $475 million on the SMEs, $1.70 billion on services from local companies and $84 million on foreign products from local suppliers registered in the Sultanate of Oman besides the supply of products of national industries to Duqm Refinery at $265 million.

As part of its corporate responsibility, Duqm Refinery has committed to award of 10 percent of the works of the project to SMEs mainly to the establishments operating in Al Wusta Governorate.

The company executing the three packages of the project is also obligated to allocate 20 percent of the total value of purchases of the project to the goods locally manufactured and the services offered by the local suppliers.   

Duqm Refinery is also committed to investment in the basic structure and services that contribute to improvement of the lives of the local community members. Duqm Refinery has also worked on development of the national cadre and enhancement of the local communities and has spent over $5. 4 million for the finance of social projects, mainly in the fields of education, health and environment preservation.

Duqm Refinery has adopted   valuable initiatives and programmes for the development of the English language for students at the schools in Al Wusta Governorate.

Duqm Refinery has also made available 476 training scholarships for employees and 186 training opportunities for the national cadre.   

OQ has recently signed with the Ministry of Health an agreement for the finance of construction of an emergency and accidents unit at the health centre in the Wilayat of Al Duqm in Al Wusta Governorate.
