Oman, Japan review implementation of projects in economic, free zones

Tokyo: Dr. Ali bin Masoud Al Sunaidi, Chairman of the Public Authority for Special Economic Zones and Free Zones (OPAZ) held a meeting in Tokyo with Saito Ken, Japanese Minister of Economy, Trade and Industry.

The meeting reviewed aspects of the economic cooperation between Oman and Japan, and the most significant projects being implemented in Oman’s economic zones, free zones, and industrial cities.

The most significant project is the low-carbon iron production project, which is in the Special Economic Zone at Duqm (SEZAD). Dr. Al Sunaidi also held meetings with a number of representatives from companies producing reduced iron and its derivatives, manufacture equipment for the production of renewable energy, build aircraft, ships, and other vehicles, stations for receiving, storing and exporting hydrogen. He also held meetings with other financial organisations to discuss potential of funding for the targeted projects.

Dr. Al Sunaidi and his accompanying delegation were briefed on the experience of Yokohama Port in receiving ships specialised in transporting energy and petroleum products and receiving and storing vehicles.

He also held meetings with the Mayor of Yokohama City and several Yokohama Port officials. They meetings discussed means of cooperation between the Ports of Yokohama and Duqm.
