Weather update: Heavy rains witnessed in parts of Oman

Muscat: Rainfall of varying intensity continues in parts of Oman with the flow of valleys and reefs on the coasts and desert areas of Dhofar Governorate.

Oman meteorology added in its last update: “Rainy clouds flow over parts of the governorates of Al-Buraimi, Al-Dhahirah, Musandam, North Al-Batinah, and parts of South Al-Batinah, Muscat, and Al-Wusta.

Civil Aviation Authority said in weather alert of heavy rains issued yesterday that, heavy thundershowers associated with active downdraft, fresh winds and hail expected on Thursday from mid-day until night over the governorates of Al Buraimi, North Al Batinah, South Al Batinah and Al Dhahira, Al Dakhylia, North Al Sharqiya, Muscat and Dhofar with precipitation ranging from 20 to 80 mm may assisted with flash floods.

In addition, Isolated thundershowers expected over governorates of Musandam, South Al Sharqiya, Al- Wusta.

The Civil Aviation Authority advises all to take precautions during thundershowers, not to cross Wadis (Flash Flood) and avoid low lying areas and not to sail during alert period.
