French national freed after months in Iran jail; President Macron thanks Oman's efforts

Muscat: Efforts by the Sultanate of Oman resulted in the release of a French citizen who spent almost two years in detention in Iran has been released and arrived home.

 President Emmanuel Macron posted earlier on X: " Louis Arnaud is free. He will be in France tomorrow after too long incarceration in Iran."

 The president thanked Oman for helping secure his freedom and urged Iran to release three other French prisoners.

 He added: "I thank our Omani friends and all those who worked towards this happy outcome. This evening, I am also thinking of Cécile, Jacques and Olivier. I call on Iran to release them without delay."

According to BBC News, Louis Arnaud, who is in his 30s, was arrested in September 2022 - accused of participating in anti-government protests and of contributing to anti-government propaganda.
