Swimmer Issa and shooter Said Paris Olympics campaign ends

Paris: Oman’s international shooter Said Al Khatri and younger Olympian swimmer Issa al Adawi concluded their campaign in Paris 2024 Olympic Games.

Al Adawi came sixth in the preliminary heat two of the 100m freestyle swimming event after he clocked a timing of 53.19 seconds.

Shooter Al Khatri finished the preliminary qualification of men’s trap event at the 30th place with 114 points. The 25-year-old swimmer was looking to break his personal best of 51.69s but it was a disappointing show as he could not better his result from his Olympics debut timing in Tokyo 2020 which was 51.81 seconds to bow out of the Games.

Speaking after the event, he said: “My goal was to register a better show in my second Olympics appearence but this did not happen. However, I will continue working hard to improve myself and learn from all the Olympics lessons and gain maximum technical outcomes from this significant event.

“Paris Olympic Games featured world's best swimmers besides the huge crowd and energy at the main venue. All these added as valuable experience for my future assignments I am still looking forward to deliver my best in the upcoming events,” Swimmer Issa added.

In the remaining results of heats two at the 100m freestyle event in Paris 2024 Olympics Games, swimmer Ovesh Purahoo from Mauritius took first place with a timing of 52.22 seconds and he was followed by Nixon Hernandez from El Salvador as he clocked 52.73 seconds.

Antoine De Lapparent from Cambodia finished third with a timing of 52.95 seconds. Ervin Hoost from Sierra Leone was fourth after he registered a timing of 52.99 seconds.

 Islam Rafi Samloul from Bangladesh was fifth with a time of 53.10 seconds. Oman’s swimmer Issa Al Adawi completed the distance in a timing of 53.19 seconds while Tanzanian swimmer Collins came seventh within a timing of 53.38 seconds.

Swimmer Youssef Abubakr from Libya finished eighth with a time of 56.19 seconds. The finals for the 100m freestyle will take place on Thursday to determine the top three positions and medallists of gold, silver and bronze.

Positive debut for Khatri

International shooter Saeed Al Khatri made positive presence in his Olympics debut at Paris 2024 Games.

Al Khatri finished 30th with 114 points in the preliminary qualifications of men's trap shooting event.

Oman national team shooter completed the second day of the qualification with fourth and fifth rounds qualifiers at the main range of the Châteauroux Shooting Centre on Tuesday. He suffered in the fourth round as he scored 21 out of 25 points while he managed to earn 23 out of 25 points in the fifth and final round.

Chinese shooter Qi Ying and British shooter Nathan Hales each scored 123 points to advance from the qualifiers along with Australian shooter James Willett with the same score. The top six shooters advanced to the finals where the gold, silver and bronze medallists will be determined in coming days.

Athletics Team gears up

Sprinter Ali Anwar Al Balushi and runner Mazoon Khalfan Al Alawi are still benefiting from three off days on having an intensive training sessions ahead of their competitions starting on Friday and Saturday.

Mazoon will begin her third Olympics campaign in the preliminary heats of the 100m event on Friday while Ali Al Balushi, who qualified with his record, will participate on Saturday in the same category. Both athletes will eye to deliver an outstanding performance to represent Oman in this prestigious event striving to set new personal times and achieve advanced results.
