Nama to install over 400,000 water meters as part of digital campaign

Sohar: Nama Water Services company on Wednesday began implementing the second phase of the digital transition project for water meters in North Al Batinah Governorate.

The project’s second phase includes the installation of more than 115,000 meters in the governorate’s wilayats.

This was unveiled at a meeting organized by Nama Water Services under the auspices of Mohammed Sulaiman Al Kindi, Governor of North Al Batinah.

The project provides for the installation of more than 400,000 meters as part of the company’s plan to bolster the services it offers to beneficiaries in the governorate.

The subscriber can choose between the two types of digital meters, prepaid (through the balance recharge system) or postpaid (through the billing system), without paying fees and free of charge.

During the meeting, the distinctive features of these meters were reviewed, as they provide continuous and daily readings, in addition to these meters with prepaid and postpaid facilities.

Reading the meters remotely facilitates the company’s issuance of electronic invoice, which improves the billing process by relying on real (not estimated) readings that reflect actual consumption.

This represents a shift in calculating the water consumption bill, which reaches the subscriber via e-mail or his account on the electronic services portal on the “Namaa Water Services” website, where subscribers’ data can be updated via the company’s electronic portal.

The installation of digital meters contributes to rationalising consumption, as the subscriber obtains consumption information.

The new system updates the amount of consumption every hour, which enables the subscriber to compare consumption and detect internal leakages, by alerting him through notifications, which allows for their rapid processing. This will limit subscribers’ complaints regarding the high consumption bill. Digital meters help the company cut down water loss by calculating the amount of water distributed by the main meter for a specific area, as against the total volume of water received at home meters in that area. In the event of differences, leaks are identified and water loss points are detected and treated. -ONA
