Al Musannah is an amazing tourism destinations during winter season

Al Musannah: The Wilayat of Al Musannah, in South Al Batinah Governorate is one of the amazing tourism destinations in the Sultanate of Oman, during the winter season.

The Wilayat of Al Musannah has several tourism sites and varied topography coupled with rich cultural heritage.

Dr. Al Mutassim bin Nasser Al Hilali, Director of Heritage and Tourism Department in South Al Batinah Governorate, said that the location of Al Musannah in the coastal area has made it famous with heritage derived from its old buildings, craft industries and marine art that document different aspects of its history and cultural diversity.

Al Musannah Castle is the key castle in Al Musannah along the coastal line, he said, adding it is built with stones brought from areas far from the coast. He also pointed out that the coast of the Wilayat of Al Musannah covers fascinating beaches extending from Widam Al Sahil to the Wilayat of Barka. The most famous beach is the beach extending from the sports city area to Al Owaid area.

The beach accommodates spacious areas for exercise and marine sports, relaxation and camping, he added.

He said that the Ministry of Heritage has awarded a tender for investment in the Al Khamis Wall and Tower in the Wilayat of Al Musannah from private sector’s companies specialised in the field.

The award of this project comes within the efforts of the Ministry of Heritage and Tourism for employment of the cultural heritage and for providing direct and indirect job opportunities through empowerment of the SMEs.

The Al Khamis Wall and Tower are well-known historic landmarks in the Wilayat with a fort and two towers.

The ministry renovated the fort in 2016 and the management of the fort is awarded to an investing company.

The number of visitors to the castle since it opened on 1 January to end of June 2024 amounted to 11, 522 from different nationalities, according to the statistics of the fort management, he added.----ONA
