MUSCAT: Oman Cricket (OC) is set to introduce an exciting new format: a two-day tournament, commencing on November 26 at the Oman Cricket Academy ground.
In a historic move, the tournament will feature a prize money of OMR 1,000 for the winning team, marking the first-ever instance of cash rewards in Oman Cricket’s league structure. This bold initiative underscores Oman Cricket’s dedication to fostering competition and rewarding excellence.
The tournament will showcase five formidable teams: Muscat CT, Majees CT, Renaissance CT, IAS CT, and the OC Academy XI, a squad of handpicked players representing the best emerging talent in the Sultanate.
With stakes higher than ever, these teams are set to deliver electrifying performances in a format designed to challenge and excite.
Blending strategy with endurance, the two-day tournament introduces a distinctive format. The first innings will consist of 70 overs per side, requiring teams to bat through their full quota or until bowled out, with no room for declarations.
The second innings offers a thrilling twist: teams will have only five wickets to either chase or extend their lead, with unlimited overs and the option to declare. Adding to the intensity, two new balls will be used in each innings, ensuring challenging conditions throughout.
The matches will begin at 2:00 PM, with play divided into two-hour sessions capped at 30 overs each, and breaks for tea and dinner.
This structure combines traditional cricket with the fast-paced action demanded by today’s audiences.
With the introduction of prize money, Oman Cricket has set a new benchmark for its leagues, emphasising the value of talent, hard work, and dedication.
This groundbreaking step is part of a broader commitment to developing the game, nurturing players, and creating opportunities for growth.
By innovating its league structure, rewarding performance, and promoting the sport’s spirit, Oman Cricket is paving the way for a successful future. Fans can look forward to two days of thrilling action that will blend tradition with innovation.
