Oman to welcome Winter Solstice with chilly temperatures

Muscat: The Winter Solstice will officially occur on Saturday, December 21, 2024, at 1:21 PM Oman time. This astronomical event marks the start of winter in the Northern Hemisphere and the beginning of summer in the Southern Hemisphere.

During the solstice, the sun appears to reach its most southern point over the Tropic of Capricorn.

The Sultanate of Oman is currently experiencing a significant drop in temperatures, with frost reported on some mountain peaks. According to the Civil Aviation Authority, the lowest recorded temperatures include:

Jabal Shams: 2°C

Saiq: 4°C

Uanqul: 11°C

Jebel Al Qamar: 10°C

Qairoun Hairiti: 10°C
