Oman Geological Heritage Exhibition opens in A’Rustaq

A’Rustaq: The fourth edition of Oman Geological Heritage Exhibition "Sustainability and Job Opportunities" was opened at Al Hazm Fort in the Wilayat of A’Rustaq in the South Al Batinah Governorate today and will continue until the end of June 2025.

The exhibition, organised by the Ministry of Heritage and Tourism in cooperation with the Office of the Governor of South Al Batinah, Petroleum Development Oman and Geological Society of Oman, aims to diversify the museum system that enhances tourist and heritage destinations in various governorates.

The opening of the exhibition, which was held under the auspices of Eng. Masoud Said Al Hashimi, Governor of South Al Batinah, is a translation of the efforts implemented by the Ministry of Heritage and Tourism to highlight the importance of geological heritage in the Sultanate of Oman, preserve it and ensure its sustainability.

The exhibition includes six corners, including the story of the geological heritage, the diverse geology in the Sultanate of Oman and its geological history, in addition to the formation of the land of the Sultanate of Oman in geological history, the importance of preserving the geological heritage and ensuring its sustainability, as well as job opportunities in geotourism.

The exhibition showcases distinctive pieces of geological heritage enjoyed by the Sultanate of Oman, the oldest of which is a fossil dating back about 800 million years, as well as three-dimensional scientific models of the extinct primitive elephant whose fossilized teeth were found in “Eidam” area in Dhofar Governorate, and a model of the extinct dinosaur whose fossilized bone remains were found in the Al Khoudh in the Wilayat of A’Seeb, and other unique geological fossils.
