Muscat: The Ministry of Health in Oman has launched a national campaign titled "Start Right" to promote the importance of pre-marital medical examinations. The initiative aims to prevent the spread of hereditary and infectious diseases by encouraging couples to undergo medical check-ups before marriage. The campaign highlights that the prevalence of hereditary blood diseases in Oman is 9.5%.
The campaign's primary objectives include educating the community about the significance of pre-marital medical examinations, raising awareness about the health implications of hereditary and infectious diseases, and ensuring the overall health and safety of families.
The campaign is structured into three phases:
1. Introduction to the Pre-Marital Medical Examination Program: This phase focuses on introducing the program to the public and explaining its benefits.
2. Effects of Hereditary and Infectious Diseases: The second phase aims to educate individuals about the potential health risks associated with hereditary and infectious diseases.
3. Mandatory Examination as a Condition for Marriage Contracts: The final phase will implement mandatory medical examinations as a prerequisite for marriage contracts.
The campaign targets individuals planning to get married and their guardians to ensure a healthy start to their new lives. The campaign's official activation is set to begin in 2026, and medical examinations will become mandatory during marriage procedures.
This campaign is a significant step towards addressing public health concerns and reducing the incidence of hereditary and infectious diseases in Oman, ultimately contributing to the community's well-being.
