Muscat: The Omani Ministry of Education and Social Communication has issued a statement to clarify recent discussions circulating on social media regarding the “percentage of students passing in the first semester.” The ministry wishes to emphasise that the term “passing percentage in the first semester” is not an official metric and should not be confused with the final academic year result, which is based on cumulative performance throughout the entire year.

For the 2024/2025 academic year, the first-semester indicators show an approximate pass rate of 80.76%. The ministry highlighted that this figure is consistent with the results of the first semester for the previous three academic years, which were 80.85%, 80.78%, and 80.24% respectively. Therefore, the percentage of students not achieving the passing grade of 50% for this semester falls within the normal range for grade distribution. Furthermore, the indicators reveal that a significant number of students achieved high grades, with 20,269 students scoring between 80% and 99.88%, and 8,660 students scoring between 90% and 99.88%.

The ministry reiterated that these results are consistent with previous semesters and are within the expected range. They remain committed to continuous improvement in student performance through ongoing curriculum development, teacher training, and the implementation of various educational programmes and projects.
