Amsterdam: Several wounded after stabbing near Dam Square

A stabbing near central Amsterdam's city center has left five people wounded, Dutch police said Thursday. The incident took place on Sint Nicolaasstraat near Dam Square.

The perpetrator of the attack has been taken into custody. "A motive is currently still unclear, but part of our investigation," Amsterdam police wrote on social media.

The police have closed off the area where the attack occurred. Emergency responders rushed to the scene of the attack to help victims.

One of the victims is believed to have been put on a stretcher and was then boarded into an ambulance. Dutch health officials have not disclosed the severity of the victims' injuries.

Amsterdam police are asking those who witnessed the attack to share any footage of the incident with authorities.
