Muscat: The Sultanate of Oman joins the world in celebrating Planet Earth Day, which falls on April 22nd each year, under the theme "Our Power... Our Planet."
This event highlights the collective efforts to effect change and protect the planet, as it is everyone's responsibility.
This occasion brings together more than 190 countries to raise awareness among individuals, communities, and organizations about the importance of protecting the environment and its natural resources, the risks and environmental issues facing the planet, and to consolidate the values of sustainability and promote climate action.
In this context, the Environment Authority is working to implement sustainable environmental policies that pay increasing attention to environmental protection through the management of nature reserves, pollution control, and adaptation to climate change.
The Authority also works to develop specific and strategic plans, projects, and initiatives through programs to restore ecosystems, support innovation in clean energy, expand the scope of carbon sequestration projects, promote investment in nature reserves, energy, green hydrogen, and blue carbon, implement environmental policies, and balance modern requirements for implementing environmental, economic, and social projects, such as reducing carbon emissions and increasing green spaces, to achieve a prosperous and sustainable future, prioritizing the environment and natural resources.
The Authority seeks to achieve significant progress in the Global Environmental Performance Index for 2024, with the Sultanate of Oman topping the list of Arab countries and ranking 22nd globally for the least polluted country by 2025, according to the Numbeo platform.
It's worth noting that the event aims to unify international efforts to protect the environment and address the climate challenges threatening the planet. It also aims to inspire action for a cleaner, more just, and more sustainable future by focusing on renewable energy, accelerating the adoption of policies that apply it, and transitioning to clean, green, and circular economies with an environmental dimension, while raising awareness of the need to adhere to them.
