Muscat: The Sohar Court of Appeal has handed down prison terms, fines, and deportation orders to three Egyptian citizens and a business for offenses including human trafficking, cybercrimes, and distributing explicit material.
The defendants, Mohamed Nabil El-Said, Shorouk Ahmed Mohamed, and Karima Mohamed Saad, along with Eshraqat Al-Asr Trading Company, were convicted of human trafficking. The court sentenced the three individuals to seven years in prison and fined each OMR 10,000, while the company was fined OMR 10,000.
Additionally, the court found the three individuals guilty of using information technology to facilitate human trafficking, sentencing them to ten years in prison and fining each OMR 20,000.
The first defendant and the company were also convicted of money laundering, with the first defendant receiving a five-year prison sentence and a fine of OMR 50,000, of which OMR 10,000 must be paid, while the company was fined OMR 100,000, with OMR 10,000 to be paid.
Furthermore, the first and second defendants were convicted of using information technology to distribute explicit content, receiving six-month prison sentences and fines of OMR 500 each.
The third defendant was found guilty of failing to renew her residency and overstaying her visa, resulting in a fine of OMR 100 for each offense.
The court ordered the permanent deportation of the convicted individuals after serving their sentences and the confiscation of funds, electronic devices, and business licenses related to the case.
