Oman intensifies diplomatic push to de-escalate regional tensions

Muscat: On Sunday, the Sultanate of Oman initiated a series of diplomatic engagements aimed at de-escalating heightened regional tensions. These tensions stem from Israel’s recent military strikes on Iranian territory and its ongoing offensive in Gaza.

In a significant move, His Excellency Sayyid Badr Al Busaidi, Oman's Foreign Minister, hosted a high-level meeting in Muscat with his German counterpart during the latter’s official visit. Their discussions centered on the escalating regional crisis, specifically addressing Israel’s attacks on crucial Iranian infrastructure, which have reportedly caused numerous casualties, alongside the persistent violence and devastation in Gaza.

Both ministers emphasized the urgent need to uphold international law, end violations of national sovereignty, and reignite support for a two-state solution. The discussions highlighted the importance of broadening international recognition of the Palestinian state and reinforcing diplomatic pathways as the only viable route to regional stability.

In parallel, Al-Busaidi conducted a series of intensive phone calls with foreign ministers from allied and friendly nations, pressing for coordinated legal and political action to halt Israel's operations. These efforts reflect Oman’s unwavering stance in support of peace, justice, and international law.

Oman's proactive diplomacy underscores its long-standing commitment to conflict resolution through rational dialogue and multilateral cooperation, aiming to safeguard regional peace, global stability, and shared prosperity.

The Sultanate of Oman continues its vigorous diplomatic efforts to contain the unprecedented escalation triggered by Israel's military aggression against Iran, which has significantly heightened regional tensions. Oman reaffirmed its steadfast rejection of military escalation and the violation of national sovereignty, emphasizing that the only viable path to resolving the crisis lies in a serious return to diplomacy. It called for a fair agreement that would avert a disastrous outcome whose effects could ripple across the entire world.

In this context, H.E. Sayyid Badr bin Hamad al-Busaidi, Oman's Foreign Minister, held telephone conversations with his Russian and Chinese counterparts as part of a broader series of contacts with brotherly and friendly nations. The discussions highlighted the urgent need for an immediate halt to hostilities.

The ministers agreed that Israel is the aggressor and in violation of the UN Charter, having obstructed peace efforts, including U.S.–Iranian negotiations aimed at preventing nuclear proliferation. All parties concurred that a military solution is futile and that an early ceasefire is crucial to returning to the negotiating table, particularly to address the nuclear file and ensure stability and peace.

During his call with the Russian Foreign Minister, both sides stressed that the current unprecedented escalation contradicts the UN Charter. They renewed their call for an immediate end to hostilities, a halt to their expansion, and avoidance of targeting nuclear facilities or risking nuclear radiation spread.

The Russian Minister expressed deep appreciation for Oman’s mediation efforts, affirming the Russian Federation’s support for diplomatic negotiations and political solutions, and highlighting their importance in maintaining international peace and security.

Separately, Chinese Foreign Minister Wang Yi echoed similar sentiments, underscoring that the nuclear issue cannot be resolved outside the framework of diplomacy. He described the Israeli strikes on Iranian territory as a blatant breach of the UN Charter and international law.

He also aligned with Oman’s stance and praised its persistent pursuit of peace and efforts to facilitate dialogue.
