Muscat: Due to the impact of a low-pressure trough over the Sultanate of Oman, the Civil Aviation Authority issued a weather warning on Saturday regarding heavy rainfall. The Hajar Mountains have already begun to witness the formation of cumulonimbus clouds, with scattered showers expected—some of which may be accompanied by thunderstorms and active winds. These conditions are likely to intensify in the coming hours.
In its official statement, the Authority said:
"Due to the influence of a low-pressure trough and the expected heavy thunderstorms over the governorates of North Al Batinah, South Al Batinah, Al Dhahirah, Al Dakhiliyah, and Al Buraimi, rainfall amounts are expected to range between 20–60 mm. These may lead to the flow of valleys and streams, accompanied by strong downdraft winds that could cause unsecured objects to be displaced."
The statement added:"Forecasts also indicate that North Al Sharqiyah and the southern parts of Musandam may receive rainfall ranging between 10–30 mm, while South Al Sharqiyah may see 5–10 mm. These rains may also lead to valley flows and stream surges, accompanied by strong downdraft winds that could cause unsecured objects to be displaced."
The Civil Aviation Authority urged everyone to exercise caution during thunderstorms and avoid crossing valleys during rainfall.
