Indian delegation briefed on Shura’s legislative functions

Muscat: The Shura Council received a delegation from the Indian National Defence College, as part of their ongoing visit to the Sultanate of Oman.

The visit aimed to familiarise the delegation with the Council’s legislative roles and responsibilities, as well as its contributions to strengthening parliamentary diplomacy.

The delegation was briefed on the Council’s legislative functions, particularly its role in reviewing draft laws referred by the government and those proposed by the Council itself. They also received a detailed explanation of the oversight tools available to members of the Council, in accordance with the Law of the Council of Oman.

The session further highlighted the Council’s integrated role alongside other state institutions in shaping national decision-making and contributing to the goals of Oman Vision 2040.

The delegation was also introduced to the working mechanisms of the Council’s permanent committees, the procedures followed during regular sessions, and the support provided by the General Secretariat in terms of technical and administrative assistance.

The discussion also touched upon the Council’s efforts in promoting parliamentary diplomacy at various regional and international forums and events.

As part of the visit, the delegation toured the Council of Oman building and its facilities, where they were introduced to the advanced technologies used in the Council’s regular session hall.

The visit also included a tour of the Council of Oman Library.

The delegation was received by Hussein Mohammed Al- Lawati and Jumaa Said Al-Wahaibi, members of the Shura Council.
