Duqm: The Public Authority for Special Economic Zones and Free Zones has awarded the consultancy services tender for the Integrated Economic Cluster for Cold Chain Development in the Special Economic Zone at Duqm. This project is one of the outcomes of the National Programme for Economic Diversification, “Tanwea,” supervised by the Ministry of Economy.
The Cold Chain Economic Cluster Project aims to develop and improve the integrated logistics system for cold chain operations within the Special Economic Zone at Duqm, thereby enhancing export quality, maximising the economic value of Oman’s non-oil exports, and boosting their competitiveness through the establishment of robust infrastructure that enables Omani products to meet international standards and access global markets.
Eng. Ahmed Ali Akaak, CEO of the Special Economic Zone at Duqm, stated that the Duqm Cold Chain Project complements several ongoing initiatives in the region’s fishery and food industries. He added that the project will benefit from Duqm’s dynamic business environment and advanced infrastructure, including the multi-purpose fishing port and the road network connecting various investment zones.
Meanwhile, Jamal Mousa Al-Wahaibi, Deputy Head of Integrated Economic Clusters at the National Program for Economic Diversification “Tanwea,” noted that awarding this tender represents a pivotal step toward activating the project. It contributes to expanding the production and export base, empowering sub-sectors to increase their share in the GDP, and strengthening inter-linkages among various economic sectors.
He added that this step aligns with efforts to position the Special Economic Zone at Duqm as an advanced logistics gateway for cold chain industries in the region, in line with the objectives of Oman Vision 2040 and its ambitious plans to diversify sources of income.
In this context, Talib Amer Al-Hinai, CEO of Egolisi Consulting, expressed pride in being entrusted with this strategic project, emphasising that it provides an important opportunity to showcase the capabilities of Omani SMEs in competing and delivering comprehensive solutions for large-scale projects.
He stated that Egolisi focuses particularly on developing integrated strategies for cold chain and modern logistics.
This project reflects the government’s confidence in the ability of Omani companies to lead strategic initiatives that strengthen food, pharmaceutical, and logistics security systems, while enhancing the competitiveness of Omani products in global markets. Al-Hinai affirmed the company’s commitment to leveraging its expertise and national talents to develop a comprehensive master plan that positions Duqm as a regional hub for cold chain industries.
