Commemorative coins issued to mark the 280th anniversary of Al Busaid Dynasty (1744-2024)

Muscat: The Central Bank of Oman (CBO) announced the issuance of two commemorative coins in gold and silver to commemorate the 280th anniversary of the Al Busaid Dynasty (1744-2024 AD). This occasion marks a milestone in the history of the Sultanate of Oman, reflecting the depth of its political stability, attributed to the wise leadership of Al Busaid rulers and their role in consolidating the foundations of the state and building its renaissance.

The coins feature a unique design that reflects national identity. The obverse depicts a coloured image of His Majesty Sultan Haitham bin Tarik, the Sultan's Tughra, Al Alam Palace and the Jalali and Mirani Forts.

The reverse of the coin depicts colourful elements, such as Sohar Fort, a traditional Omani sailing ship, and the names of the Imams and Sultans of Al Busaid Dynasty.

Fifteen gold coins and 1,000 silver coins have been minted, each with a face value of OMR1. These coins feature high-quality gold (0.927) and silver (0.999), with a diameter of 75.00mm and a weight of 113.40 grams. The minimum selling price for the gold coin starts at OMR7,935/ and for the silver coin at OMR134/, subject to change based on global gold and silver prices.

It is noteworthy that these commemorative coins are legal tender at their face value and can be purchased from the Central Bank of Oman (Ruwi, Salalah and Sohar), or through Oman Post sales window at the Opera Galleria starting from Sunday (12 October, 2025).
