Muscat: The Sultanate of Oman witnessed a significant 56.8% increase in imports of medical devices and equipment for cardiac conditions during 2024, with values reaching OMR5.2 million compared to OMR3.3 million in the previous year, according to figures released by the National Centre for Statistics and Information (NCSI).
The data revealed that total imports of these medical devices amounted to approximately OMR5.2 million, up from OMR3.3 million in 2023, demonstrating the healthcare sector's commitment to strengthening diagnostic and therapeutic capabilities for cardiovascular diseases. Imported equipment included various devices, particularly electrocardiographs, cardiac pacemakers and medical diagnostic X-ray equipment. The latter category showed the strongest growth at 80.7%, while imports of cardiac pacemakers surged by 91.9%.
Regarding medical staffing, the statistics indicated that the number of cardiac surgeons within the Ministry of Health stood at 19 physicians in 2024, compared to 30 physicians in 2023, with one specialist dedicated to pediatric cardiology.
This import growth aligns with national initiatives to enhance healthcare services and develop specialised medical capabilities, in keeping with the objectives of Oman Vision 2040 to improve quality of life and healthcare standards. These efforts support the Sustainable Development Goal related to good health and well-being (Goal 3) through reducing mortality from non-communicable diseases and advancing diagnostic and treatment services.
Separately, the private healthcare sector continues to bolster the national health system through technological innovation. The Al Tawazun Centre for Quantum and Integrative Bio-Medicine has introduced the NLS medical diagnostic system based on non-linear technology.
Dr. Salim bin Said Al Wahaibi, a specialist at the centre, explained that this medical device represents the world's only technology capable of conducting real-time examinations of all body organs and systems with extreme precision, without surgical intervention or biological disruption to the body's internal environment. The device operates by transmitting and receiving detailed information about cellular conditions and molecular structures, with the resulting data immediately processed into clear diagnoses and precise treatment recommendations.
He added that the Metatron non-linear diagnostic system enables accurate patient assessment within minutes, thereby improving treatment plan efficiency and effectiveness while reducing time and effort for patients. The centre aims to help individuals restore their biological, physical, and mental equilibrium through this integrated scientific approach.
