Spouse of Turkish President visits National Museum

Muscat — Emine Erdoğan, Spouse of the President of the Republic of Türkiye, visited the National Museum today, as part of the state visit made by the Turkish President to the Sultanate of Oman.

She toured the museum's halls and galleries, receiving a comprehensive explanation about the museum and the important aspects of Oman's history and civilization showcased in its various halls.

In the "Earth and People" hall, the guest learned about adornment artifacts and the Omani-Turkish Relations display case. This case contains a number of items, including Ottoman coins, a replica of the Holy Quran attributed to Caliph Uthman bin Affan from the Topkapi Palace Museum (first edition), and an ornamented plate made of ceramic and copper, gifted by former Turkish Minister of Defense Mehmet Vedat Gönül to the late Sultan Qaboos bin Said bin Taimour.

The visit also included the Prehistory and Ancient Ages hall, which highlights archaeological sites inscribed on the World Heritage List (Bat, Al-Khutm, and Al-Ayn). She was introduced to findings from the Bat tombs, types of frankincense, the oldest incense burner, and the oldest golden necklace.

In the Splendors of Islam hall, the guest viewed aspects of religious architecture, such as a mihrab (prayer niche), ornaments featuring arabesque art, and a display on the status of women in Islam.

Furthermore, She viewed a number of belongings of Sayyida Salma bint Said Al Busaidi in the Oman and the World hall.

The distinguished guest also paused at the corner dedicated to the late Sultan Qaboos bin Said bin Taimour in the Renaissance Hall, where she viewed the original Letter No. (1) from the Sultan Qaboos bin Said bin Taimour addressed to Their Highnesses the esteemed members of the Royal Family Council through the Defence Council.

During her visit, the guest was accompanied by Dr. Madiha bint Ahmed Al Shaibani, Minister of Education.
