Project inaugurated to supply reclaimed water to farms in Barka

Muscat: Nama Water Services on Thursday celebrated the inauguration of the project to supply reclaimed water to agricultural areas in the Al Shakhakhit area of Wilayat Barka. The project cost exceeded OMR2 million and involved laying more than 40 kilometres of pipelines to connect reclaimed water to 40 farms in the first phase.

The inauguration ceremony was held in the Wilayat of A'Seeb, under the auspices of Dr. Saud bin Hamoud Al Habsi, Minister of Agriculture, Fisheries and Water Resources.

As of the project's inauguration, over 100 connection requests have been received. The project offers solutions to a number of challenges faced by agricultural landowners, such as water scarcity and salinity. Furthermore, it represents the nucleus for a future expansion aimed at covering the entire area between Sultan Qaboos Street (heading to North Al Batinah Governorate) and the Batinah Expressway.

The implementation of the project is part of the company's continuous efforts to support the goals of Oman Vision 2040 in the fields of environmental sustainability and enhancing water and food security. The project contributes to revitalizing the agricultural economy, enhancing community sustainability, creating new job opportunities, and boosting the productivity of the agricultural sector. It also serves as an effective model for partnership between the public and private sectors in managing natural resources.

During the ceremony, Nama Water Services also launched the new identity for reclaimed water, "Manhal Nama” (or Nama Resource), which embodies its ambitious vision toward achieving sustainable water development that supports life and preserves natural resources. The new identity reflects the philosophy of reclaimed water as a renewable source of life, combining modern technical solutions for water reuse with environmental efficiency standards, leading to a more prosperous and sustainable environment.
