Muscat: Oman’s Environment Authority has activated its Environmental Emergency Centre in response to developments related to Ethiopia's Hayli Gubbi volcano eruption, according to an official statement issued Tuesday.
The agency confirmed that it is coordinating closely with the Ministry of Health, the Civil Defence and Ambulance Authority, and the Civil Aviation Authority to monitor the situation following reports of volcanic activity in the region.
According to data received from the Civil Aviation Authority, volcanic ash was detected at an altitude of 35,000 feet over parts of the Empty Quarter and sections of the Arabian Sea. Authorities emphasised that no significant impacts have been recorded so far.
Environmental monitoring teams also reported no rise in air pollution levels across the Sultanate, reaffirming that the ash at high altitude poses no current threat to public health or the environment.
Officials reassured residents that specialized teams are continuing round-the-clock monitoring to ensure the safety and quality of Oman’s atmosphere.
The statement concluded with a message praying for the protection of Oman and its people.
