
Muscat: The Oman Gavel Championship of Public Speaking 2026 (OGCPS 2026) provides a structured platform for school students to showcase the communication and leadership competencies developed through the Gavel Club programme. Gavel Clubs offer opportunities to individuals, typically those under 18, to hone their public speaking skills. Gavel Clubs are a part of Toastmasters International, a worldwide non-profit educational organisation focused on developing communication and leadership skills.
OGCPS 2026 concluded successfully with its Finals and Valedictory Function held on Friday, 30 January 2026, at Indian School Darsait, Muscat, marking the culmination of a vibrant championship that brought together young speakers from Gavel Clubs across Oman.
The Semi-Finals, conducted on 23 January 2026, witnessed enthusiastic participation from 30 Gavel Clubs, with over 240 Gaveliers competing across four contest categories. Following a rigorous and impartial judging process, eight finalists in each category advanced to the Finals, where they demonstrated confidence, clarity of thought, and effective communication skills.
The championship was graced by His Excellency Shri G. V. Srinivas, Ambassador of India to the Sultanate of Oman, as the Chief Guest, who, in his address, highlighted the importance of communication and leadership skills in shaping personal and professional success.”
The Keynote Address was delivered by Mr. Damodar Katti, Managing Director, Design Group Engineering Consultants, who emphasised the importance of creativity, confidence, and communication in shaping future leaders.
The occasion was further honoured by the presence of Mr. Shalimar Moideen, President of the School Management Committee, Indian School Darsait, and Mr. Amar Srivastava, Principal, Indian School Darsait, as Guests of Honour, both of whom addressed the gathering and motivated the students.
Representing Toastmasters, DTM Cyprian Misquith, District Director, District 105, spoke on the role of Gavel Clubs in nurturing leadership and communication skills among students.
The event concluded with the felicitation of winners across all contest categories during the evening valedictory function. The championship was organised and conducted under the leadership of DTM Praveen V. Panicker, Chairman, Oman Gavel Championship of Public Speaking 2026, with the support of Gavel Club counsellors, Toastmasters leaders, coordinators, volunteers, and participating schools across Oman.
