Education Ministry organises symposium on future of research chairs in Oman

Muscat: The Ministry of Education today organized a national symposium titled “Engineering the Future of Research Chairs in the Sultanate of Oman”. The symposium was held under the auspices of Dr. Jokha Abdullah Al Shukaili, Chairperson of Oman Authority for Quality Assurance of Education.

The symposium aimed to discuss the role of research chairs as platforms for generating knowledge, guiding innovation and supporting sustainable development in line with the objectives of Oman Vision 2040.

The research chairs are envisaged to help in exchanging local and international experiences and developing practical frameworks for building a knowledge-based economy and meeting the goals of comprehensive development in the Sultanate of Oman.

The symposium targeted public and private higher education institutions, university vice chancellors, directors of research centres, heads of research chairs funding entities and researchers.

The symposium saw the official launch of the UNESCO Research Chair at Muscat University, raising to 10 the number of such chairs in Oman that serve alongside two chairs of the ISESCO (the Islamic World Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organization).
