Ramadan offers youth a chance for spiritual, mental, and physical renewal

Muscat: Ramadan is a month not only of fasting and worship but also of self-improvement, especially for youth, experts say. The holy month provides an opportunity to correct negative habits, adopt healthier routines, and strengthen spiritual and mental well-being.

Health and spiritual balance
Sayyida Dr. Zakiyah bint Qah’tan Al Busaidi, Senior Consultant of Family Medicine, explained that Ramadan combines health and spirituality, allowing young people to rebalance their physical and mental needs. She noted that the benefits of this balance can extend beyond the month if properly maintained.

Managing nighttime routines
Dr. Salih bin Saif Al Hinai, Senior Consultant of Family Medicine, highlighted that youth often stay up late for social gatherings, television, or sports events during Ramadan. He recommended redirecting late-night hours to reading the Quran, self-learning, discussions, or light exercise after Taraweeh prayers, and advised that nights out should end by midnight. Daytime naps can help compensate for shorter night sleep.

Encouraging good deeds
Dr. Ismail bin Nasser Al Aufi, Advisor at the Office of the Minister of Awqaf and Religious Affairs, said charitable acts, such as providing Iftar meals to fasting individuals, increase significantly during the holy month.

Promoting discipline and positive habits
Dr. Talal bin Hamad Al Rawahi noted that Ramadan helps youth replace negative behaviors with positive ones, while coach Haitham bin Thani Al Farei emphasized that the month teaches discipline, time management, and healthy lifestyle practices, including sports, which improve both mental and physical health.

Experts agree that Ramadan serves as a “school of life” for young people, leaving sustainable impacts on spiritual, mental, and physical well-being.
