Muscat: The Sultanate of Oman participated in the leaders' emergency summit concerning the evolving regional situation, held this evening via videoconference.
The summit saw the participation of the GCC member states, several Arab leaders, as well as the Republic of Türkiye, Armenia, the President of the European Council and the President of the European Commission.Sayyid Badr bin Hamad Al Busaidi, Foreign Minister represented the Sultanate of Oman at the meeting.
During the summit, participants discussed the latest regional developments in light of the war waged by the United States of America and Israel against the Islamic Republic of Iran, and the ensuing repercussions affecting the region's security and stability.
Discussions also focused on ways to de-escalate military tensions and bolster diplomatic efforts aimed at containing the crisis.In his address, the Foreign Minister affirmed the Sultanate of Oman's solidarity with the GCC member states and other Arab nations in confronting any violations of their sovereignty or aggressions targeting their territories and critical infrastructure.
He reiterated Oman's firm stance that the joint Israeli-American military attacks on the Islamic Republic of Iran constitute a violation of international law. He warned that the continuation of military operations could exacerbate the crisis and poses a serious threat to the international legal order, which is the bedrock of global peace and security.
Sayyid Badr underscored the importance of adopting a balanced and responsible approach in dealing with current developments to help break the cycle of escalation and reinforce collective commitment to the principles of international law.
He affirmed that a diplomatic solution remains the only viable path to address the root causes of the crisis, calling for concerted efforts to achieve a ceasefire under an international mandate, thereby paving the way for a return to diplomacy.
