Iraqi authorities rescue over 20 oil tanker crew after attack

Baghdad: Iraqi authorities announced today that they have rescued the crew of a foreign oil tanker that was attacked in territorial waters off the southern coast of Iraq, as the ongoing conflict involving the United States and Israel against Iran continues to impact maritime security in the region.

The Director General of the Iraqi Ports Company, Farhan Al-Fartousi, told the Iraqi News Agency that Iraqi authorities were able to rescue the crew of the foreign oil tanker after it came under attack in Iraqi territorial waters.

He explained that the rescued crew members numbered more than 20 people. Further details about the nationality of the vessel, the circumstances of the attack, and the condition of the crew have not yet been disclosed.

The incident comes amid heightened tensions in the region as the war involving the United States and Israel against Iran continues, raising concerns over the safety of shipping routes in the Gulf region.
