Muscat: The Ministry of Information, through its Media Training Centre and in partnership with the Ministry of Education, has concluded four specialised training programmes targeting young people, as part of its efforts to empower youth, promote positive and responsible social media use, and cultivate a generation of conscious digital content creators.
The programmes are part of a broader development initiative launched by the Ministry in 2025 under the title “Towards a National Framework for Engaging with Social Media,” in collaboration with government, private and civil society partners.
The initiative aims to nurture inspiring and positive role models among the youth, providing peers with examples to follow, reinforcing responsible digital behaviours, and strengthening digital identity and citizenship through the optimal use of digital platforms.
It also seeks to guide young people towards developing intellectual skills and building knowledge, transforming digital influence from a tool of entertainment into a means of learning and intellectual growth.
Eight school students from across the Sultanate of Oman took part in the two‑week programmes, which focused on responsible digital content creation, managing negative content and social media risks, fact‑checking, and distinguishing between authentic and AI‑generated content.
The programmes aimed to build youth role models on social media, develop skills in crafting impactful media messages, and enhance critical thinking, contributing to media literacy and improving content quality on digital platforms.
The training combined theoretical modules with practical applications, covering digital content creation, impactful messaging, and safely handling negative content on social media.
Interactive activities, practical exercises and applied projects were also included to enable students to produce purposeful and responsible digital content.
The programmes are part of the Ministry’s ongoing efforts to foster a culture of responsible media, empower youth to use digital platforms positively, and reinforce citizenship and community awareness, while keeping pace with the rapid changes in the digital media landscape.
