Muscat: The Oman Sailing Championship 2026 got underway on Saturday in the Wilayat of Ras Al Hadd, South Al Sharqiyah Governorate, with the competition scheduled to continue until August 18.
The championship brings together more than 64 sailors, including 14 sailors from the United Arab Emirates and Sri Lanka, alongside 50 sailors representing Oman Sail’s sailing schools.
The programme features 12 races for each class, with a maximum of three races per class each day. Participants are competing in the Optimist, ILCA 4, ILCA 6 and ILCA 7 classes.
The championship provides an important competitive platform for sailors to develop their skills and gain further experience. It also contributes to strengthening Oman’s position as a regional destination for sailing and highlights Oman Sail’s role in providing an integrated environment to develop sailors’ abilities and support their sporting progression.
The event also aims to prepare sailors for participation in upcoming championships and sporting competitions at various levels.
The championship is being organised in partnership with Oman LNG and the Oman Maritime Sports Committee.
