
Muscat: The Ministry of Agriculture, Fisheries and Water Resources and Oman Agricultural Association on Thursday held their second periodic meeting during which they discussed cooperation between the two sides, as well as challenges facing farmers.
The meeting highlighted the Association's vital role in expressing farmers' needs and proposals, with a view to fostering direct communication between farmers and the authorities concerned.
The meeting was chaired by Dr. Saud bin Hamoud Al Habsi, Minister of Agriculture, Fisheries and Water Resources. It elaborated on ways to establish a favourable environment for farmers to identify the difficulties that they face during various stages of production and marketing.
The meeting also explored mechanisms for cooperation to support the marketing of local agricultural products in a manner that contributes to the sustainability of agricultural activities and improves economic returns for farmers.
The meeting looked into ways to enhance the performance of Omani farmers by using alternative energy in operating farms. It also discussed the contribution of companies and small and medium enterprises (SMEs) in providing services to farmers.
