Oman Olympic Committee organises “Omani Women in Sport: Pride and Inspiration” forum

Oman Olympic Committee, represented by Oman Athletes Commission, organised the “Omani Women in Sport: Pride and Inspiration” forum last Thursday at IntercityHotel Muscat, Bousher, in celebration of Omani Women’s Day. The forum recognised women’s contributions to the sports sector, highlighted their journeys in competition and achievement, and explored their role in developing the sports movement in the Sultanate of Oman.

The forum featured three discussion sessions. The first introduced the Oman Athletes Commission and was delivered by Buthaina Al Yaqubiy, a member and rapporteur of the Commission. She outlined the Commission’s role and responsibilities in representing athletes and strengthening their participation in the development of the sports system.

The second session, titled “The Road to Sporting Achievement,” was delivered by Wafa Al Samri, a member of the Oman Athletes Commission. She discussed the journey towards sporting success and the dedication, perseverance and commitment it requires, highlighting key aspects of an athlete’s pursuit of goals and ambitions in sport.

The third session featured a dialogue with Omani tennis player Fatma Al Nabhani and international table tennis referee Aisha Al Saidi, moderated by media professional Zainab Al Zadjali. The discussion explored key milestones in their sporting journeys, their experiences in the sports field, the challenges they had faced, and the factors that had contributed to their respective careers. It also highlighted their experiences in sports competitions and international refereeing.

The forum concluded with the recognition of 30 female athletes and women working across sports institutions in appreciation of their efforts and contributions to Omani sport, and in recognition of their dedication across various fields within the sports sector.

The forum was organised as part of the Omani Women’s Day celebrations, reaffirming the important role of women in the development of sport in the Sultanate of Oman. It also recognised their contributions to sporting achievements and the advancement of sports administration, while highlighting inspiring female role models for future generations.
